A Gift of Dignity and Care: New Bladder Scanner Enhances Resident Support at K-Life

A Focus on Dignity and Prevention

At K-Life, we’re always working to bring better care, greater comfort, and more dignity to the people we support. Thanks to the generosity of the K-Life Ladies Auxiliary, we’ve taken another meaningful step forward—welcoming a new bladder scanner into our clinical care toolkit.

This non-invasive piece of equipment might be small, but its impact is anything but. Used to assess bladder volume, it allows our team to carry out quick, comfortable checks without the need for unnecessary transfers, discomfort, or delays. It supports early identification of urinary retention or infection risks, helps prevent hospital transfers, and improves the overall quality of life for our residents—especially those who may be frail, immobile or experiencing cognitive changes.

Bladder health is a key aspect of wellbeing, yet it’s often overlooked or only addressed reactively. In aged care, being proactive makes all the difference. This technology empowers our team to intervene early—before discomfort or complications arise—while upholding the dignity of every person in our care.

It also means fewer invasive procedures, reduced need for catheterisation, and a more streamlined experience for residents, families and staff alike. The bladder scanner strengthens our ability to deliver person-led, integrated care—an important goal outlined in our 2025–2028 Strategic Plan.

This equipment was made possible thanks to the ongoing commitment of our K-Life Ladies Auxiliary, a dedicated group of volunteers who raise funds to support resident needs. Their generosity directly supports our mission to help locals live life better, with tools and services that promote independence, connection, and comfort.

“This donation is a perfect example of community spirit in action,” says CEO Sarah Fea. “The Ladies Auxiliary work tirelessly to raise funds for things that have real, meaningful impact—and this bladder scanner is already making a difference.”

As K-Life continues to grow as a regional leader in aged care, health and wellbeing, investments like this help us stay true to what matters most: local support, real people, and personalised care that meets people where they are.

We’re incredibly grateful for the support of the Ladies Auxiliary, and we look forward to seeing the many ways this new technology will benefit our residents in the years ahead.

Because at K-Life, care isn’t just something we provide—it’s something we live, together.
