K-Life Medical Centre is a mixed-billing practice
Bulk billing is available to patients who:
- have a Commonwealth concession card
- Children under 16 years of age
Why are you charging an out-of-pocket fee?
Put simply, the Medicare rebate has not kept up with the rising cost of providing healthcare services. That has led to 65 percent of medical practices in Australia charging all their patients’ out-of-pocket fees.
It was a difficult decision however rising costs of wages, insurance, supplies and equipment has meant that the Medicare rebate does not cover the cost of running the practice.
Who is exempt from the gap fee?
Our doctors will still offer bulk billed appointments for concession card holders:
- Pensioner Card
- DVA (Department of Veteran Affairs)
- Health Care Card
- children aged 16 and under.
How much will I be charged?
Doctors’ appointments will attract a $40 fee and other minor procedures attract a $20 fee.
How will payment work and how will I get the rebate?
If you pay with cash, you will pay the full amount and apply to Medicare for the rebate.
If you pay with a debit or credit card, you will pay the full amount. If you would like an electronic rebate, you will need to have your bank account registered with Medicare. The rebate will then go into your bank account.
If you do not have a bank account registered with Medicare, you will pay the full amount via EFTPOS and apply to Medicare for the rebate.
What service will be bulk billed?
We will continue to bulk bill services for:
- Health assessments and care plans
- Healthy Heart Checks
- Mental health care plans
- Annual flu vaccinations and childhood immunisations (non-Medicare patients must pay privately).
Are you charging for blood tests?
No, we will not be charging for conducting blood tests.
What are the Medicare Safety Nets?
The Medicare Safety Nets are set up to help individuals or families who visit doctors or specialists regularly.
When you spend over a certain amount in a calendar year, Medicare will give you a higher amount back. They calculate the Safety Nets each calendar year, 1 January to 31 December.

How do I make an appointment online?
Go to www.hotdoc.com.au and search our postcode in the search bar: 4373. Our practice will come up and you can then select which doctor you would like to see.
Does this affect the after-hours service?
Our after-hours partner service Hello Home Doctor (www.hellohomedoctor.com.au) will continue to bulk bill patients who use their services.
Current patients can use this service. The service is great if you have a non-urgent issue or are looking for a new prescription.
Doctors from Hello Home Doctor Service will convey the details of your consultation back to us so we can update your records.
If you have a question that is not answered above, please feel free to contact us and we will be happy to help.
Innovative Model of Care
Emphasising prevention and education, we advocate for healthy lifestyles and regular health check-ups.
We want to empower you to take an active role in your own health management.
Our ethos
We provide health care to thousands of locals in Killarney, QLD and surrounds, and local is in our DNA. We are run by locals, for locals, and are dedicated to the community we serve.
We build strong, trusting relationships with patients, and encourage open communication and collaboration in managing health concerns.
We strive to create a welcoming and inclusive environment where you feel valued and heard, ensuring that your unique needs and preferences are taken into account.
Our story
K-life Medical was founded in 2023 when former Killarney GP, Dr Leith Geisel, donated her practice to us so the community would have control over their health care.
Dr Geisel had served the community for over 13 years, recognising that the town and district needed a local General Practitioner, and wishing to ensure locals wouldn’t need to leave town to access medical care.
Now, Dr Geisel has retired, but K-Life Medical proudly continues her legacy. We deliver quality, community-owned health care with heart; with a practice run by locals, for locals.
